Silver Spring is a centrally-located suburb of Washington D.C. bordering D.C., Prince George County and Howard County. Within Montgomery County, this community sits next to Rockville and Chevy Chase.

Silver Spring gets its name from a Mica-flecked sparkling spring discovered by Francis Blair, who came to Maryland from Kentucky to publish a newspaper. While horseback riding he discovered the spring in 1842 and named the area Silver Spring. Today the spring’s location is commemorated by Acorn Park in the downtown area.

Silver Spring is also serviced by a MARC Train station, which is located next to the metro station. Ride-On buses service the major and secondary roads in the neighborhoods. I-495 is in the northern part of the community.
